Studio Rain Project by MarshExplorer
Monday :iconmondaymonday909: asked me some time ago if we could make rainfall in my studio, for some cool photos with strobe lights and falling water droplets. I am not sure exactly how I replied. It might have been something like, "you're crazy", but I think I said it wouldn't hurt the floor to get wet, so it was something we could think about. My original thought was to get everything off the floor that couldn't get wet, then I decided to contain the water with a sheet of plastic laid over some tubular shaped objects that would form a containment area for the water. I should have included a photo, because that description sucks. Imagine some 2" PVC pipe or something formed into a square with plastic over it so the edges of the plastic extend over the square frame. You then have a valley in the middle that will hold water, as long as the plastic doesn't have any holes.

So, I did that and I dug through my parts box looking for some bits of plumbing that would make it possible for me to attach a shower head to a 3/4 inch garden hose. I found all that and a few old shower heads, which I evaluated in turn, until I settled on the one that I thought would give me the most photogenic cascade of water.

MondayMonday909 :iconmondaymonday909: showed up and we set about creating a scene in which I was partially suspended with my face in the water and my wrists and elbows tied behind me. As you can see in the tiny images I assembled (:iconmondaymonday909: should be posting some larger images when he's ready), the lighting was focused and creepy. My personal favorites had the spider web in the background. Monday and I have different taste, so I'm not sure he'll post any of those.

Getting back on topic: We had to remove all this to ready the studio for another shoot that didn't involve drowning anyone. However, I plan to put it all back with some improvements, in the not-to-distant future. I hope to make 2 improvements. I'd like to use black plastic, if I can find a large sheet for not too much money. I'm also going to rig 2 shower heads for a wider spread of water drops.

I think this shoot was a success. The photos have a nice feel to them. The rigging was pretty cool, and the tube in my mouth and the blindfold add an ominous feeling to the scene. It's always fun to do something different, especially when it looks dangerous. This is my favorite kind of scene.

We were speaking earlier today about getting out of our norm, and I think last night, with this scene, we did exactly that. It felt great, and inspiring. I'll see you Tuesday for the pcst! Now its time for bed!
